Engagement height is the height of your die (measured from top of upper shoe to bottom of lower shoe, no parallels) at which time the working diameters of the pin and bushings cross and the balls on ball bearing die sets start rolling.
This is an important piece of information as the rule of thumb is for a die to be engaged
to at least the same dimension as the nominal diameter of the pins being used
(some say 1 1/2 times the nominal diameter) before punches and cutting steels enter.
Die designers that have been using the MDL Online Part Selector for selecting ball bearings components have been getting the Engagement Height information on "D" Style components (interchangeable with "Danly") automatically for years, but not for "L" Style components (interchangeable with "Lamina").
That has now changed and designers using the MDL Part Selector will automatically get the Engagement Height along with the appropriate pin, bushing, and ball cage for a particular application ("L" or "D" Style). Bore size recommendations for the pins and bushings will continue to be displayed along with the part number.
